“YOUR INCOME tax refund is on hold because your banking details on SARS records are invalid.” This is hardly the message one hopes to receive from SARS once you’ve finally got your return submitted.
Yet, this scenario is becoming increasingly common, particularly among South African expats and former residents who have left the country and closed their local bank accounts.
The situation is often compounded where taxpayers have failed to update their contact details with SARS, resulting in important correspondence going unnoticed.
